Overview
Jaguar Land Rover needed to modernise its IT operating model to support growth, improve service performance and reduce complexity. emagine designed and implemented a full IT outsourcing strategy that consolidated suppliers, lowered costs and established a more scalable, business-aligned foundation for global IT delivery.
The Challenge
Jaguar Land Rover is a global automotive manufacturer with complex operations across markets, production environments and business functions. As the organisation grew, its IT model was no longer keeping pace with the scale, speed and reliability the business required.
IT delivery had become largely reactive. Services depended too heavily on individual effort and informal workarounds rather than clear processes, strong governance and a scalable operating model.
This created several business challenges.
First, IT delivery costs were high. A fragmented supplier landscape, overlapping responsibilities and inefficient ways of working increased complexity and reduced transparency.
Second, service quality was inconsistent. Outages and uneven performance affected internal operations, while limited accountability made it harder to drive sustained improvement.
Third, organisational capability was under pressure. Low morale and high attrition made it harder to retain and attract experienced IT talent, especially in competitive local markets.
Finally, limited management information reduced visibility into performance, spend and investment priorities. That made decision-making slower and made it harder for IT to support business change at pace.
Jaguar Land Rover needed more than incremental improvement. It needed a new IT operating model that could reduce cost, improve service quality, simplify supplier management and create a stronger foundation for future growth.

The Solution
To support Jaguar Land Rover’s IT transformation, emagine designed and implemented a comprehensive outsourcing model that addressed strategy, commercial structure, supplier management and operational transition.
The objective was not simply to outsource services. It was to create a delivery model that improved performance, strengthened accountability and gave the business a more scalable and sustainable IT foundation.
Phase 1: Defining the outsourcing strategy
emagine began by shaping the go-to-market strategy for the new IT operating model. This set out how services would be structured, sourced and delivered under a clearer outsourcing framework.
A central part of this phase was the design of a tower-based service model, including service schedules, service levels and a commercial structure aligned to business objectives. emagine also maintained ownership of the business case to keep financial and operational priorities aligned throughout the programme.
Phase 2: Reshaping the supplier landscape
emagine then led a complex commercial and supplier management process to support the move to the new model. This included parallel negotiations with two major suppliers on behalf of two client entities.
emagine also negotiated the termination of contracts with more than 100 suppliers, significantly reducing complexity across the IT estate. This consolidation created a more manageable and transparent delivery environment.
Phase 3: Transitioning to live operations
Following the strategy and commercial phases, emagine was selected to lead the transition into live operations. This took place over an 18-month period and involved moving services to the new outsourcing model while maintaining operational continuity.
emagine coordinated the transition across stakeholders, suppliers and client teams to help ensure a stable move from programme design into day-to-day delivery.
Phase 4: Enabling long-term scalability
Beyond the core outsourcing transformation, emagine also supported wider strategic initiatives. These included global delivery models, project factory structures, national sales office IT operations and IT setup for new manufacturing sites and joint ventures.
This extended the value of the programme by creating a more flexible and scalable delivery environment for future growth.

The Results
Lower IT costs
The new outsourcing model reduced IT costs by 30% over five years through supplier consolidation, improved commercial arrangements and a more efficient operating structure.
Stronger service accountability
With clearer ownership and a more consolidated supplier model, Jaguar Land Rover gained more consistent, business-aligned IT service delivery.
Simpler supplier governance
Terminating more than 100 supplier contracts reduced operational complexity and created a more transparent environment for coordination, oversight and performance management.
A scalable IT foundation
The programme established a stronger platform for global delivery, future growth and continued innovation across the organisation’s IT landscape.
